Getting Started

Congratulations on your engagement! Please contact the rectory(860.628.0349) to speak to Sharon a.s.a.p. so that we may setup dates. The St. Dominic Parish family shares in your joy and happiness as you look forward to celebrating the sacrament of matrimony.  With all the excitement and anticipation building towards your wedding day, it must seem, at times, that this special day will never arrive!

By now, you most likely are in the process of planning and organizing all the many details that go into making your wedding day especially memorable.  We offer the following information to assist you:

Contact Sharon Ayotte at the rectory, 860.628.0349, to schedule your first appointment.  At the time of your first appointment, you will receive information about the Engaged Couples Conference, the Faucet Inventory, and the documents required by the Church.

St. Dominic Parish’s Organist and Music Director, has considerable experience with planning music liturgies.  Music is often overlooked as a key element in reflecting the uniqueness of each couple, but our director is looking forward to meeting with you and will be a valuable resource in selecting your special wedding music.  You should contact the music director at least six months prior to your wedding to arrange a meeting.  If you know you are interested in particular musical pieces, styles, or instruments for your wedding, contact the music director as soon as possible to learn about the guidelines and standards for music at our parish weddings. He can be reached through the rectory at 860.628.0349.

Our Wedding Coordinator, Joanne Macioci, will meet with you 6 to 8 weeks before your wedding day to plan all the details of your ceremony.  She will be conducting the rehearsal and will also be at the wedding to provide assistance, as needed.  You will find her to be invaluable in working closely with you on the many aspects of your wedding arrangements.  Joanne can be reached at 860.276.8550 or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. •    Wedding Ceremony and use of the Church (set-up, clean-up, utilities)
•    Wedding Coordinator
•    Presider
•    $100 Deposit taken at the time you call to set your wedding date.  The balance of the offering should be paid any time during your preparation period up to one month prior to your wedding rehearsal.

Music Fees are additional:
•    Organist (required)
•    Soloist
(Outside musicians and vocalists are permitted at the discretion of the Music Director)

Certificates Required:
During the six months of preparation for your wedding, you will be asked to furnish the following certificates:
A Certificate of Baptism that has been issued within 6 months of the wedding date, a Certificate of First Communion and a Certificate of Confirmation.
You can obtain these certificates from the parish (es) where you received these sacraments.  If you received them at Saint Dominic Parish then you need only to inform us.

Blood Test and Marriage License:
You no longer need to have a blood test before obtaining a marriage license.  You can obtain your marriage license in the  town of Southington.  Once you have received a marriage license from the Town Clerk’s Office it is recommended that you bring the license to the rectory as soon as possible.  We will keep it with your records and return the appropriately signed license to the Southington Town Clerk’s office following your wedding.

Flowers, Runners, and Pew Decorations:
These items are your responsibility.  The aisle is 100 feet long from the inside door to the altar.  For safety purposes, should you wish to use a runner, it is strongly recommended that a cloth runner be used rather than paper.  There are 30 pews on each side of the center aisle.  Bows should be tied on or looped over pew ends.  (tape is not to be used in the church please)
It is customary to leave your flower arrangements on the altar for the weekend Masses.  If you have questions regarding procedures for flower arrangements, you may contact our Wedding Coordinator, Joanne Macioci  860.276.8550.

Receiving Line:
Your receiving line may be in the back of the church, the foyer, or outside.  The use of confetti, rice, birdseed, etc., is prohibited.

Candid Photographers/Videographers:
The use of cameras should not interfere with the liturgy or in any way unduly delay the ceremony.  Both are welcome, but the operators should conduct themselves in a way conducive to the prayerful character of the occasion. If you have questions regarding photography or
video-taping, you may contact our Wedding Coordinator, Joanne Macioci  860-276-8550.

Our wedding rehearsals are normally scheduled on the Thursday evening before the wedding for Friday weddings, and on Friday evening before the wedding for a Saturday wedding.  Please be sure your wedding party is on time because there might be other scheduled rehearsals.  Confessions are not heard the night of rehearsal.  The Sacrament is available weekdays at 8:30 a.m., Saturdays at 4:00 p.m., or by appointment.

We look forward to meeting with you and pray that our Lord showers blessings on you both as you prepare for the Sacrament of Matrimony.
